IL DECRETO LEGISLATIVO N. 231/2001 ALLA PROVA DEI REATI AMBIENTALI. Aspetti problematici di ascrizione della responsabilitĂ allâente.
My Phd research is focused on the theme of the extension of the corporate liability to environmental crimes. This âreformâ has been realized by the legislative decree n. 121/2011 on which also corporations are responsible for environmental offences, as provided by the art. 25 undecies of the legislative decree n. 231/2001.
The new statutory legislation puts into effect the European regulation: the EU directive 2008/99/CE on the protection of the environment through Criminal law, and the one 2009/123/CE relating to pollution caused by ships. My thesis, therefore, begins with the close examination of such hard European process that ends with the difficult transposition of the law by the Italian legal system.
The research, then, considers the issues related to the principles of the legislative decree n. 231/2001, especially the principles provided by art. 5 and artt. 6 - 7. According to the first principle, the issue depends on the features of environmental crimes: these offences, in fact, are essentially contraventions so they can be intentional or committed by recklessness. Regarding the second principle, provided by articles 6 and 7, itâs difficult for corporations to set up a valid compliance programs to prevent environmental crimes. The legislative decree n. 121/2011, unfortunately, hasnât a rule such as the art. 30 of the legislative decree n. 81/2008.
For these reasons, my thesis has two purposes: the first, working out the issue between the principles of corporate liability with the features of environmental offences; the second, trying to offer few proposals concerning a new system of a corporate liability for environmental crimes
Protein kinase CK2 is widely expressed in follicular, Burkitt and diffuse large B-cell lymphomas and propels malignant B-cell growth.
Serine-threonine kinase CK2 is highly expressed and pivotal for survival and proliferation in multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and mantle cell lymphoma. Here, we investigated the expression of \u3b1 catalytic and \u3b2 regulatory CK2 subunits by immunohistochemistry in 57 follicular (FL), 18 Burkitt (BL), 52 diffuse large B-cell (DLBCL) non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) and in normal reactive follicles. In silico evaluation of available Gene Expression Profile (GEP) data sets from patients and Western blot (WB) analysis in NHL cell-lines were also performed. Moreover, the novel, clinical-grade, ATP-competitive CK2-inhibitor CX-4945 (Silmitasertib) was assayed on lymphoma cells. CK2 was detected in 98.4% of cases with a trend towards a stronger CK2\u3b1 immunostain in BL compared to FL and DLBCL. No significant differences were observed between Germinal Center B (GCB) and non-GCB DLBCL types. GEP data and WB confirmed elevated CK2 mRNA and protein levels as well as active phosphorylation of specific targets in NHL cells. CX-4945 caused a dose-dependent growth-arresting effect on GCB, non-GCB DLBCL and BL cell-lines and it efficiently shut off phosphorylation of NF-\u3baB RelA and CDC37 on CK2 target sites. Thus, CK2 is highly expressed and could represent a suitable therapeutic target in BL, FL and DLBCL NHL
MUNDUS project : MUltimodal neuroprosthesis for daily upper limb support
Background: MUNDUS is an assistive framework for recovering direct interaction capability of severely motor impaired people based on arm reaching and hand functions. It aims at achieving personalization, modularity and maximization of the userâs direct involvement in assistive systems. To this, MUNDUS exploits any residual control of the end-user and can be adapted to the level of severity or to the progression of the disease allowing the user to voluntarily interact with the environment. MUNDUS target pathologies are high-level spinal cord injury (SCI) and neurodegenerative and genetic neuromuscular diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Friedreich ataxia, and multiple sclerosis (MS). The system can be alternatively driven by residual voluntary muscular activation, head/eye motion, and brain signals. MUNDUS modularly combines an antigravity lightweight and non-cumbersome exoskeleton, closed-loop controlled Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for arm and hand motion, and potentially a motorized hand orthosis, for grasping interactive objects.
Methods: The definition of the requirements and of the interaction tasks were designed by a focus group with experts and a questionnaire with 36 potential end-users. Five end-users (3 SCI and 2 MS) tested the system in the configuration suitable to their specific level of impairment. They performed two exemplary tasks: reaching different points in the working volume and drinking. Three experts evaluated over a 3-level score (from 0, unsuccessful, to 2, completely functional) the execution of each assisted sub-action.
Results: The functionality of all modules has been successfully demonstrated. Userâs intention was detected with a 100% success. Averaging all subjects and tasks, the minimum evaluation score obtained was 1.13â±â0.99 for the release of the handle during the drinking task, whilst all the other sub-actions achieved a mean value above 1.6. All users, but one, subjectively perceived the usefulness of the assistance and could easily control the system. Donning time ranged from 6 to 65 minutes, scaled on the configuration complexity.
Conclusions: The MUNDUS platform provides functional assistance to daily life activities; the modules integration depends on the userâs need, the functionality of the system have been demonstrated for all the possible configurations, and preliminary assessment of usability and acceptance is promising

From Water Consumption Smart Metering to Leakage Characterization at District and User Level: The GST4Water Project
This paper presents some of the results achieved within the framework of the GST4Water project concerning the development of a real time monitoring and processing system for water consumption at individual user level. The system is based on the most innovative technologies proposed by the ICT sector and allows for receiving consumption data sent by a generic smart-meter installed in an userâs house and transfer them to a cloud platform. Here, the consumption data are stored and processed in order to characterize leakage at district meter area (DMA) and at individual user level. Finally, the processed data, on the one hand, are returned to the Water Utility and can be used for billing, on the other hand, they provide frequent feedback to the user thus gaining full awareness of his consumption behaviour
Wireless Middleware Solutions for Smart Water Metering
While smart metering applications have initially focused on energy and gas utility markets, water consumption has recently become the subject of increasing attention. Unfortunately, despite the large number of solutions available on the market, the lack of an open and widely accepted communication standard means that vendors typically propose proprietary data collection solutions whose adoption causes non-trivial problems to water utility companies in term of costs, vendor lock-in, and lack of control on the data collection infrastructure. There is the need for open and interoperable smart water metering solutions, capable of collecting data from the wide range of water meters on the market. This paper reports our experience in the development and field testing of a highly interoperable smart water metering solution, which we designed in collaboration with several water utility companies and which we deployed in Gorino Ferrarese, Italy, in collaboration with CADF (Consorzio Acque Delta Ferrarese), the water utility serving the city. At the core of our solution is SWaMM (Smart Water Metering Middleware), an interoperable wireless IoT middleware based on the Edge computing paradigm, which proved extremely effective in interfacing with several types of smart water meters operating with different protocols
